I consulted Dr. Mahony's practice in Neutral Bay for sleep apnea concerns as a non-citizen and paid nearly $2,000 for initial consultations, X-rays, facial profiling, and a joint surgeon meeting—costs I accept. I have no complaints about the medical advice: braces, MSE, BSSO (jaw surgery), and chin advancement were recommended appropriately for my case. However, the experience was disappointing due to unprofessional and rude behavior from Dr. Mahony and staff. Given the high costs (over $15,000 for orthodontics alone, plus ~$40,000 for surgery) and lifelong implications, I asked reasonable detailed questions about expected jaw expansion, sleep apnea improvement, nerve damage risks, relapse risks, and management plans. These were dismissed as "asking too many questions." This matched other reports of poor management, frequent cancellations, and delays. Staff also repeatedly failed to share my paid X-rays with the consulting surgeon despite multiple requests from both me and their office—it took over two months. A staff member even privately warned me that the practice seemed more revenue-focused than patient-centered. These issues led me to seek treatment elsewhere. I'm now under care with an extremely renowned maxillofacial surgeon at a top Mumbai hospital, where concerns are addressed promptly and affordably. I share this after starting surgery, as it reminded me of those difficulties. I genuinely hope his practice has improved, because I am sure he has many happy patients too. For sleep apnea, it is my opinion to consider seeing a good and pleasant maxillofacial surgeon first, since I feel that they are more aware of surgical and non-surgical options, unlike orthodontics where jaw, sleep apnea and its place within orthodontics is still an emerging area. Update 3rd Feb 2026: After posting my original review, last week I received a cease and desist letter from a law firm acting for the practice, requesting its removal. As my review reflected my personal experience—including positive comments about Dr. Mahony's expertise and knowledge, which drew me to the practice in the first place—I have chosen to leave it as is.
