Smart Energy Answers

I had a battery and 10 solar panels installed by Smart Energy Answers. Several issues arose from the installation: no key provided for the battery controller box, the battery was mounted over an existing powerpoint, a tap was broken on the day, and an existing micro inverter and solar panel stopped working immediately after. Most seriously, two roof tiles were left out of position, leading to a bedroom flood during a Melbourne downpour while the house was unoccupied. The damage is permanent — ceiling destruction and water staining across roughly a square metre. I contacted the company multiple times by phone and in writing. Every call was handled by an overseas call centre who took notes and promised to escalate — but after more than a month, I have received no response or resolution from Smart Energy Answers. Note for prospective customers: the contract requires full upfront payment before installation, no site visit is conducted beforehand, and their quote was the highest I received.

Whilst I did not go ahead with Smart Energy Answers due to them not being able to meet the timelines for rebates (understandable) - I had a very good consultation with Brad, he explained all the options and answered all my questions. Pricing was competitive.

So far, quoting and first steps were good, however, once I paid a deposit, I was asked to give a review on their service. That is a bit of a red flag. After paying a deposit over a month ago, asking for next steps with no response via email over a week ago, then no return to calling and text messages. I am loosing confidence and patience. When you are looking at doing a 30k job, I would expect better communication at this stage. Happy to update this rating once the job is completed.

We installed our solar system with Smart Energy Answers (SEA) and the whole process was flawless from the time we spent with the salesperson to the final installation. SEA was not only the quickest to provide quotes but they also gave us some time to work through different options and pros/cons to suit our needs. Once confirmed, the installation went without a hitch. The installers that arrived on the day of installation were punctual, knowledgeable and installed the panels and inverters cleanly. Their workmanship was of high quality. Definitely recommend these guys. We also went with SEA few years later to install a battery, the whole process from quote to installation was 4 days, amazing and loving the install and now ability to self consume solar through the peak period. Update (March 2026): I had one of my Powerwall 2 batteries replaced. While it took a few calls initially to coordinate my Powerwall 2 warranty replacement, Smart Energy Answers delivered an exceptional resolution by upgrading my entire system to Powerwall 3 under warranty. They also seamlessly managed the addition of an extra expansion unit, leveraging both Federal Government and Tesla rebates to maximise my system's capacity. As a loyal customer since 2021, I am ultimately very impressed with the final outcome and the high-quality workmanship provided by the team.

Good at front end sales, sadly lacking in follow up customer service - I would avoid. The sales and information process was good, installation, whilst, there was a couple of hiccups on missed dates was also good. However the problems came when there were system faults. It maybe because they use 3rd party installers, but it seems v difficult to pin them down to fix faults. I have had the system over 3 years. I have had two situations where the system stopped producing solar, the first was rectified after much follow up, and missed appointments. The second time has been going on for a month. I am being told no one is available to come out and fix the issue as they are 'full' with no offer of future appointments - so I just have to wait until a time that they see fit to come and fix. I was even talking to them to get a quote for a battery install, and still no appointments offered! I have asked to escalate the problem - but I'm told they are unable to do so. Maybe they are too busy installing batteries to fix existing systems, but all the while I have no solar energy generation - they just seem to not care. I recommended these guys to several friends based on the front end process, unfortunately I am going to have to apologise to them now. My advice - avoid these guys at all costs and go with a firm that has in-house teams.

We had several quotes for a 15KW solar panel / 24kW battery system - some quotes looked a bit dodgy / unprofessional and some were horrendously expensive . SEA were not the cheapest but were professional & very helpful in assisting us with sizing the system and selecting the best value components. When it came to the installation, their site team was excellent starting at 7am and finishing by around 8pm ( 1 day installation) . The solar panel team were very fast & efficient and the electrician team were great also - very polite, friendly and tidied up after themselves . I would recommend using Smart Energy Answers for Solar / Battery systems - its a big investment so having confidence in the company’s ability to deliver is important.

its a scam.. i have waited 9 months after paying the deposit only to be told oh sorry we cant do your batteries now and all the other people you were dealing with have left the company .. still waiting on the refund.. i 100% think all the 5 star reviews are fake

Great experience start to end with installation of a solar battery. Rameez looked after us and impressed us with his ability to quickly understand our usage to recommend the right battery for us. You can tell he’s incredibly experienced and knowledgeable. Got booked in for April installation but managed to get my battery installed in February. The installation team was nice to work with and did a good job. Definitely recommend.

After sales service is appalling. Half of my panels have not worked for 6 months. I have called 20 times. Christine says she cannot schedule repairs because her manager is on leave. There are no repair schedules available. How can this take 6 months and 20 calls? I can't even get a callback, the team just say there is nothing they can do.
